canada

Because you know your heart desires it – here’s everything you need to know of tonight’s MLB All Star Game – fashioned to provide you a general sense of well being.

Barack Obama Ceremonial First PitchThe Pregame - To get things trucking, Fox played a montage of former presidents speaking about pleasant folks who help others. George W. Bush made an appearance! President Bush looked 10 years younger than when last we saw him in office… and he seemed happy! Probably has a lot to do with the fusion of two things Bush loves – baseball and freedom from fire breathing dragons reporters like Helen Thomas.

Ok – National Anthem time. Look at the size of that flag! Sheryl Crow was a little flat there on a couple of notes… she was married to Lance Armstrong once! French people really don’t seem to like Lance very much… oooohhhh PLANES! I think that was a stealth. That’s tremendous.

Sarah Palin & The Pretty Girl Who Ate Crickets

Sarah Palin Acceptance Speech

When I was a lad, I would often meet young ladies. Demographics being what they are (even in Montana, despite what you may have heard) it’s difficult to avoid it. On occasion, I would encounter a young girl who would catch my eye and I would be smitten. Yes, I am from the 1950s and use the word ‘smitten’. Sometimes I would even hang onto this state of puppy love for a good while. Then, almost without fail, an unpleasant fate would befall me. I got to know this young female person… and she ate live crickets. So now that’s out of the way.

Hey World (& President Obama), Honduras Got It Right

Erstwhile Honduran President Manuel Zelaya

America has just celebrated her Independence Day, the day when our founding fathers stood up against the oppressive and unjust tyranny of the executive powers over them and sought to establish instead a government of liberty, justice and equality. And while we celebrated, the tiny country of Honduras was once again playing out our more than 200 year old drama.

Erstwhile Honduran President Manuel ZelayaHonduras has been an independent country for going on 200 years as well, but for most of that time was ruled by military power. A civilian based government was not established until 1982 with the writing of the Honduran Constitution.

One of These Four Will Be the GOP Pick in 2012

Governor Mike Huckabee

Governor Mark Sanford’s South American enterprise to see his mistress this week was the most unbelievably foolish stunt we’ve seen a politician undertake for the sake of adultery in recent memory… wait… that just really isn’t the case. Oh well – it was still incredibly ill advised. Anyway, before Argentina happened, Governor Sanford was being highly touted as a potential presidential candidate three years hence. Now, that isn’t going to happen. This situation reminds us that there are different standards for Democrat and Republican candidates. Put a different way, there are standards for Republican candidates and no standards for Democrat candidates (see W.J. Clinton, Teddy Kennedy). So who’s left on the Republican chief executive smorgasbord? And what will push each of them toward and hold them back from the right to challenge the venerable and serene President Barack Obama?
