Thoughts from the Right at Kennedy’s Passing

When a giant falls, you can’t help but take notice. When that giant is one who spent nearly his entire life championing political causes to which you stand in stark and devoted opposition, the experience is unique and confused. One wonders how to feel and what to say. The death of Senator Kennedy this past week was the passing of just such a giant.

Ted Kennedy was an Irish Catholic. He was brother to two famous heroes of liberalism and son to a man who (as US ambassador to Britain) told FDR to give up on Churchill’s Britain at the outset of World War II. Senator Kennedy was pro-choice. He led the charge to block the nomination of Robert Bork by Ronald Regan to the supreme court in 1987 and was a big reason that judicial nominations since have devolved into questions of ideology more than competence.

In Defense of Obama’s Vacation

Barack Obama Golf cart

The Conservative talkers have been all a clatter this weekend aboot President Obama’s plans to journey to Martha’s Vineyard (which is not a vineyard and we don’t know who Martha is… if you do, please comment) for a week long vacation. They’ve pointed out that Obama is deserting his post in the midst of an epic health care crisis, and he should stay and solve things instead of golf with Tiger Woods.

I actually think that the Obama-cation is a good thing – on a human level and a practical national health (as in ‘health of the nation’ and not ‘national health care’) type of one.

Barack Obama is a human being, as such – he gets tired. He grows weary! At such junctures it behooves human beings to go off somewhere and rest.

Bob Hope on Democrats & Zombies

We find ourselves greatly in the debt of our favorite ice cream baron – Brian of Minneapolis – for leading us to this delightful collection of moving pictures. As always, we remind our liberal readers that we love you… but this is just too funny to pass up. Here’s Bob Hope in 1940′s Ghost Breakers.

The joys and the potential pitfalls of Brett Favre in Minnesota on this special edition of This Week with Goose. How will the legendary pigskin hurler’s addition play in the lockeroom? We examine all and leave no stone unturned as Angry Journalist David Gregory (read David’s spirited recap of the day here) joins us for the full episode. Goose and Gregory disect the joys and sorrows of Vikings & Packer faithful the Upper Midwest.

Also, Miley Cyrus’ pole dance at the Teen Choice Awards… how do you deal with a 16 year who is bent on becoming the reincarnation of Britney Spears?

And lastly, in our efforts to proffer you a heaping plate of politics to go with your sports and culture, we analyze the current standing of Obama-care! This is sure looking at lot like 1993 isn’t it? Granted, we were 8 then…

It’s entertainment, information, and a general sense of well being on TWG…

Vikes Play Own Version of ‘I Love the 90s’

Brett Favre Vikings Camp

Ever see an actor in person and feel like they look different on film? Or hear a musician live and find the sounds incomparable to what’s on your iTunes? Well, I just saw an image that looks completely different to me than the photoshopped versions that have existed for months – a photo of Brett Favre in Vikings gear.

Brett Favre Vikings CampAnd, just like those other examples, something feels a little off.

Three weeks after declaring that he couldn’t convince his body to undergo the strain of another full season (and three weeks after I compared him to Meg Ryan on this site), Favre has signed on to be the Minnesota Vikings quarterback. Just hours after getting off the team’s personal jet in St. Paul, Favre was taking snaps at practice, getting ready to start in Friday’s exhibition against the Kansas City Chiefs.
