“Teabaggers”

Enough is enough. I am an American citizen, and I have strong beliefs about how this country should be run. And although I have a right to hold beliefs that are uneducated and uninformed, I do not. I am an American citizen, and I am derided and marginalized because I believe the constitution of my country limits the size and scope of the federal government. I believe in a free-market, I believe that the 2nd and 10th amendments are hanging by a thread and should be restored, and I believe in that mankind is endowed with inalienable rights by our creator, and we should not ask what our government can do for us, but return to self-reliance and responsibility. These are not uneducated or racist stances. But the leftist major media organs and even the president of the United States—my president—is deriding me as a “teabagger.”

And I’ve had enough. Mr. President, you and your administration accuse phantom “right wing extremists” of violence and racism, your supporters accuse us of sedition and treason. The Democratic Party parades itself as the friend of “the little guy.” I’m an American, Mr. President. I have no great status or stature, other than the rights and privileges that come to all those blessed to carry the title of “U.S. citizen.” So why is it, that the “people’s party” is the one slandering the people? How is it that you can claim to be a uniter, and play Americans off each other? How can you sit in your office and denounce Americans who love this country as racist hate-mongers and call them derisive and offensive names like “teabaggers?”

To the voices in the media who are using a pejorative term to describe a movement of American citizens: stop. You are not helping the country. You’re obstructing the very debate that Americans are demanding right now. We need to have a real discussion about the size and role of our government. We’re in the middle of a spending, debt, and power crisis. People are angry. You’re dismissing this group of angry citizens as “racist teabaggers.” Obviously I’m uncomfortable with an epitaph of a violent and obscene sexual act, but what makes me mad is the fact that you hate freedom of speech. Anyone who disagrees with your positions, you slander and label as haters.

If you want this country to move forward, you have to understand that maybe Americans disagree with you. Commentators like you, who have to lie about who I am as loudly as possible to try to marginalize and drown out my voice, will never understand this country like I do. You can’t allow a debate on this, because you will lose, and you know it. You can’t allow a debate so you have to marginalize your opposition by calling us racists and bigots. You’re cowards. You want this country to look different than it ever has, and to achieve that, you will lie about the character of your opponents to avoid a real debate. Is it because you can’t stomach the fact that you’re wrong, or you just don’t care? To all who call us “teabaggers,” I offer a challenge. A real debate, on live TV. Not a tape-delayed broadcast cut up into sound bites to try to disguise how badly you’re gonna lose. If you want to have a debate on the nature of the Constitution, BRING IT ON! We’re ready and waiting for you. Anytime, anywhere. We’re not ignorant, frothing-at-the-mouths, whackos and we want to prove it. But you already know that, don’t you? That’s why you’re afraid. That’s why you’re trying to destroy our movement. Fine. If you want to destroy us, fine. But do it on the battlefield of ideas, not slander, not libel. But until you answer our call for a debate, you can’t claim to represent what’s best for America, because ultimately you’re deriding American citizens and trying to play this country’s citizens off each other. You’re nothing more than cheerleaders for “team blue.”
